Since 2016, when the English taxi travels through the Gironde, there is bound to be accommodation with character, typical restaurants or secret addresses in Antoine Beucher’s notebook. Let us know your wishes and Wine Cab will bend over backwards to meet your request.
Here are examples of à la carte services that take you to other incredible places in Gironde. Get inspired and contact us without delay.
The Bassin d'Arcachon: An enchanting setting
It is almost impossible to stay in Gironde without pushing the road to the Bassin d’Arcachon. Barely an hour from Bordeaux, discover a magnificent bay, geared towards oyster farming. Arcachon and its districts of Moulleau and Péreire , Andernos and its typical fishermen’s huts, the peninsula of Cap-Ferret and its string of incredibly charming villages…
The entrance to the Bassin is marked by the Banc d’Arguin, a nature reserve and land of migratory birds . In front of it, the Dune du Pyla stands proud and majestic and offers a breathtaking view. On one side, the blue of the water and on the other, the green of the Landes forest. Admire, breathe, feel! Opposite is the tip of Cap-Ferret recognizable with its red and white lighthouse.
As you can see, the place is attractive and the visit to the Bassin d’Arcachon is invigorating. On foot, by bike, by boat or in an English taxi, take pleasure in strolling there! For example, you can board a pinnace, the traditional boat of the Bassin d’Arcachon to take a ride that will take you to the foot of the emblematic cabins on stilts . Or stop in a fisherman’s hut to taste oysters accompanied by a white wine from Bordeaux of course.
Go take a breath of fresh air on the Basin: schedule an excursion with Wine Cab where friendliness and authenticity will rhyme with shared pleasure!
Sauternes white wines: Sunshine in the glasses
Wine Cab leaves the Médoc and the hills of Saint-Émilion to take you to southern Gironde, on the lands of Ciron: welcome to the land of Sauternes! Over there, about 40 km from Bordeaux, the Garonne has sculpted the landscapes and the majestic Landes forest delivers its first essences. It is even claimed that in good weather, the Pyrenees massif can be guessed… at the very bottom, as if placed on a painter’s canvas.
The charm of the region will seduce you for sure. It is obviously also magnified by a vineyard belonging to two great appellations: Sauternes and Barsac. It covers 1900 hectares and 5 municipalities. It represents only 2% of all Bordeaux hectares, but what wines are produced there!
If the vineyard is well known thanks to its Premier Cru Supérieur Classé 1855, Château Yquem , the Premiers Crus and the Second Crus are just as exceptional. And that’s not all ! 120 other estates and châteaux make up this incredible terroir.
So there’s nothing like an English taxi, with authentic charm and no fuss to crisscross the small roads of the vineyard and enter the pretty properties that await you. The Château de La Tour Blanche, Château Rayne Vigneau or Château Lamothe will delight both your eyes and your taste buds.
With a golden color, the syrupy white wine so typical of Sauternes is considered an exceptional wine throughout the world thanks to its very particular fragrance resulting from noble rot. A process born from the encounter between the fruit and the autumn mist of the river. This natural wealth, the winegrowers could not ignore it. Sauternes wines have not finished surprising you. Make your plan: embark on this unique experience and let the magic happen!
Blaye: The citadel and the Corniche road
Go with Wine Cab to visit the citadel of Blaye. But for that, your driver will not take the classic route: he will embark for the occasion at Lamarque on board the ferry to make you experience the crossing of the Gironde estuary. In just 20 minutes, reach the right bank and arrive at the foot of the citadel, built by Vauban between 1685 and 1689 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.
Take advantage of an unobstructed view of the river and its lush islands, stroll through its narrow streets and don’t miss visiting its craftsmen.
The return route will continue to enchant you for sure: as if hanging between the river and the cliff, making its way along the troglodyte houses and lined with Mediterranean vegetation, welcome to the road to the ledge! Here, 3 wine appellations rub shoulders: Blaye, Côtes de Blaye and Côtes de Bourg. And Merlot is the king grape variety! The red wines are colorful and full-bodied, fragrant and always supple; white wines with an intense and powerful nose are distinguished by their finesse and persistence in the mouth.
If you feel like it, Wine Cab selects for you castles to taste some pleasant cuvées . It is even possible to make you discover an organic wine. Ask and Wine Cab does it!
